Food Psychology Coaching

My Food Psychology Coaching Program was born after working with many figure competitors in the off season as well as women who simply want to look like they can step onstage, but not necessarily progress forward with competing.

As figure competitors, we "develop" an unique relationship with food, that often times did not exist before the journey of competing began. I noticed many of my clients practiced disordered eating behaviors that were perfectly acceptable within the fitness community. Through the encouragement of our peers, it was almost heroic, as to how much we can eat in the off season, or how much weight we can gain and the key words starting becoming "get away with". Now this is not a challenge, until emotionally it starts to take its toll and spirals out of control.

You wouldn't play around with other crucial areas of your life - your mortgage, your health insurance or your credit cards, so why play around with your diet and therefore your health? It's a risky thing to do, especially if you're only doing it for bragging rights. Your body is important, and mistreating it for any reason is only going to lead to future problems.

Each off season we gain just a little more weight and then go to extreme measures to strip it away again. This is not healthy. It is as if we all have two sets of clothes. However, I noticed this pattern not only with competitors, but also quite often with everyday enthusiasts looking to stay fit and live the dream of looking like a competitor.

Binge eating and over eating are the most common behaviors I find in my work. In addition, many of my clients have been to traditional psychologists before coming to me for coaching. All of them have a similar complaint. They are not really understood. They don't actually have an eating disorder and so the solution is often a recommendation to stop placing such strong emphasis on looks, weight and body image. That's easy for them to say, but not so easy to implement.

Food Psychology Coaching is for those people who are unhappy with their relationship with food and how they use food to resolve painful issues as well as the cycle of binge eating followed by extreme dieting. I highly emphasize maintaining the goal of physical prowess, and at the same time achieving emotional balance.
